6.8 Data Minimisation

Practice data minimisation; only capture data that will enable you to make a tangible difference to users.

Easy to implement

2 High impact score

Introduction:

When and where you process data both make a difference to its footprint, this section is about the “when and how much”; see 6.11 and 7.4 for the “where.”

Before capturing anything, work out what you actually need first, then only target that data, this applies across forms, analytics and ad data alike. Every field you don’t need to store is processing, storage and (eventually) deletion overhead you don’t need to carry either.
